Training
We offer a variety of training options for your staff and/or volunteers.
-
Best practices in peer grief support
From introductions to grief to our 16-hour RIVER model, we offer all sorts of opportunities to train your staff and/or volunteers on how best to provide peer grief support.
-
De-escalation and crisis response
A highly requested topic- we can train your staff and/or volunteers to become more equipped to handle the rare, but possible scenarios in which a grieving person they are trying to support expresses anger, suicidal ideation, or anything else that might cause them to worry.
-
Cultural Humility
Grief and culture are inextricably linked, which makes this one of our most important trainings. This training teaches individuals how best to provide peer grief support to others, regardless of how different or similar they may seem.
-
Grief and mental health resources
We live in a time where resources are fortunately plentiful. However, knowing what is available and how to access them can be a challenge. This training is customized to the area in which it is being offered so that local resources may also be shared on top of general resources.
-
Self-care
Peer grief support is rooted in sharing one’s personal experience with another for mutual support. Despite its many benefits, this may lead to feelings of heaviness and burnout, and in rare cases- vicarious trauma or compassion fatigue. This training goes beyond standard one-size-fits-all approaches to self-care and provides an overview of how this work impacts us and how to develop a plan that is unique to each individual.
-
Equity-centered co-design
Equity-centered design (ECD) offers a transformative approach to peer grief program development that prioritizes inclusivity and empathy. This method is not just about creating support systems; it’s about ensuring that these systems resonate with and serve the diverse needs of all individuals navigating the complex grief journey. This training goes over ECD principles and how to apply them, ensuring peer grief programs can become more effective, compassionate, and impactful.
