Peer grief support, shaped by lived experience and built for communities.
PSCP is a small but mighty group of people with lived experience in grief and loss. We envision a world where grief can be talked about openly and support is readily available.
Our mission
Peer Support Community Partners helps establish and sustain peer grief support as an effective field of practice and an integral part of every community's response after someone dies.
Our programs are grounded in the RIVER model of peer grief support: Relate, Invite, Validate, Empower, and Reassure.
Explore RIVEROur vision
PSCP works to change the culture of grief support in the United States by building peer-based, trauma-informed systems that do not pathologize grief and can be integrated into existing communities, workplaces, and services.
Best practices that guide our work
Participant-led design
The people served by programs have meaningful roles in shaping, improving, and sharing the work.
Community-building
Programs help bereaved people build connection and support with others who understand loss.
Trauma-informed care
Support is designed to reduce harm, avoid re-traumatization, and connect people to higher levels of care when needed.
Person-centered practice
Each grieving person is treated as the expert in their own experience and choices.
Cultural humility
Support honors the different beliefs, identities, and cultural experiences that shape grief.
Self-care and resilience
Healing, reflection, and sustainability are woven into training and support for participants and helpers.
